Frequently asked questions
I am based in Sandyford Dublin 18, D18E651
Pearl Bakes is fully insured, I’m registered with the HSE and my kitchen is regularly inspected by my local EHO officer. I also have a B.A. in Culinary Arts, so I have extensive food safety training
I don’t offer Gluten free cakes currently.
For custom cakes for special events, 2 months is always a good amount of time. The earlier the better, but I will always try our best to accommodate last minute requests! Some key dates in the summer book out quickly so it’s always best to book as soon as you know the date.
A 50% deposit is required to secure all bookings. No bookings are placed in my diary without a booking deposit. Full design and final details are required prior to paying a deposit. As I work single handed, I need to know how detailed each order is prior to taking your booking so I can ensure I have adequate time available to complete this. The level of details in each order determines how much remaining space I have available.
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday my pickup times are between 5-7pm and Saturdays 9-11am. I do not offer collections outside of these times as I will be working on other orders and stopping work for a collection slows down my work process. I know this may not be ideal for everyone however as I work single handed this is the system, I follow to be able to create as many cakes each week as I do for all your lovely occasions. I am closed Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.
This depends on a few factors, whether you would like finger size portions or dessert portions. Let me know your numbers and I will advise a suitable cake size. The smallest size cake I offer serves 20 finger portions.
I can provide a custom delivery/set-up quote for tiered cakes, dessert table set ups or large corporate orders. This will include travel and set-up time. For single tier celebration cakes/ cupcakes I do not offer delivery currently.
I want your cake to make it to your destination in perfect condition. There are a few things you can do to keep your cake safe as you transport it.
The safest place for your cake is on the floor of the passenger footwell or floor of backseat area of your vehicle. This is an even, flat space with minimal room for the cake box to slide around. Plus, the footwell can be temperature-controlled with the air con so you have a higher chance of keeping your cake nice a cool, preventing slipping. Avoid putting your cake on a seat or on someone’s lap as this isn’t a level surface and the cake may slide off it’s board.
It’s ideal to have air conditioning that works well to keep your car and cake nice and cool. Buttercream is made out of butter, which can soften up as it gets warm. A vehicle with air conditioning that works well will help keep your buttercream cool and prevent it from softening and beginning to melt. Buttercream that is too warm from being in a hot car can slip and slide from bumps, potholes, quick stops and sharp turns.
Drive carefully as your cake is special cargo. Take turns slower than you usually would and avoid bumps and potholes as much as possible.
If you are transporting your cake to a destination that is further than 30-45 minutes away, please let us know so we can take special care to have your cake nice and chilled when you pick it up and add additional internal supports where necessary.
Please note: Once the cake leaves Pearl Bakes, I am not responsible for what happens on the transportation journey. Please follow the transportation instructions above and feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Unfortunately, I do not take orders of any kind over Instagram DM. All correspondence needs to be made via the website or by email as Instagram is unreliable and I wouldn’t want to miss or lose your details.
You can now place your cake order on our website under the celebration cake quotes in the main menu. Here you can complete an enquiry form and I will reply with a quote. If this quote suits you can then place and book your order.
